Dr. Thomas Q&A:

Why did you choose to become a psychiatrist?
I always  knew I wanted to go into this field. In fact, in my eighth grade year book I put Psychiatrist as my future career!  I was inspired by my father who is a social worker and raised foster children in our home. In medical school, I participated in electives related to mental health and was selected by the American Psychiatry Association for the Minority Scholarship Program where I learned more about the mental health concerns affecting our minority communities. These lifelong experiences have made psychiatry not just my career, but my passion.

Where did you train?

I attended University of Nevada School of Medicine where I earned my Doctorate in Medicine (MD).  I graduated in 2010 and moved to Houston where I was accepted to the Baylor College of Medicine/Menninger Department of Psychiatry Residency Program. I opted for a 4th year of residency to specialize in talk therapy, women’s mental health, and working with professionals (CEOs, lawyers, doctors, athletes, etc). After completing my residency, I did a 2 year fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to specialize in working with children and teens.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and two kiddos!  We live in Fort Bend and enjoy the family friendly atmosphere, dining (Brandani’s is my favorite), and the diversity of our community!
